I am not a supporter of burning books; but like poison, some books should be kept away from simple minds who can't take in the strong content they provide

About This Quote

It was the late 16th century, and Johannes Gutenberg had just invented the printing press. He had invented it to make books more affordable to the common man. Now, instead of reading them on expensive parchment, he could have them printed on paper. But that wasn't all that made his invention a big deal.

The printing press was a technological advancement that allowed for faster and cheaper distribution of ideas and information. It also provided a way for people to have access to ideas that were not available in their environment. It allowed for people to “pick up a pen,” which is what the quote says about books.

In fact, few people know that it wasn't even Gutenberg who invented the printing press. Inventors from many different countries came up with their own ideas about how to get books printed before Gutenberg did. But, even though he didn't invent it, he was able to patent it and make a profit by selling printers' tools.

Today, we wouldn't be able to say that he invented the printing press if Gutenberg hadn't been around to profit from it.
